Why choose a bamboo bike?

Comfort

Due to its fibrous structure, bamboo naturally filters the vibrations from the ground. Your back will thank you!

Design

A unique, stylish handcrafted bicycle, taylor made according to your choices. Imagination is your only limit!

Carbon footprint

Local aluminium machining as well as the use of local bamboo and linen help to reduce the carbon footprint of the frame by approximately 90% compared to a traditional frame.

Robustness

For the same weight, bamboo is three times stronger than steel.

Lightness

A bamboo bicycle is light!

Stiffness

The stiffness is what will give the bike its dynamism. Once dried, bamboo is an extremely rigid material. In Asia, they make scaffolding that is 400m high!

Make yourself your bike in 6 simple steps

Before the workshop

Postural Study and geometry choice

The first step is the postural study, it is very important to make the right choice of geometry in order to make a bike perfectly suited to your morphology and your practice. You are measured, and from this data, your future bike is drawn.

1st day

Jig positioning

Based on the drawing, the various metal elements (head tube, bottom bracket, seat tube, rear stays) are positioned on the jig to reproduce the desired geometry.

1st day

Cutting the bamboo

We then choose the appropriate bamboo tubes to make this bike. We will shape them so that they fit the various metal elements. A saw and a stanley knife are used for this.

You can choose to make an internal cable routing at this point.

2nd day

Making the lugs with flax fibre and epoxy resin

To make the composite for the lugs, we use flax fibre. It comes in the form of a fabric from which we will cut strips. These strips will then be coated with resin and will serve to bond the bamboo with the metal elements. It is a simple step that takes about 4 hours.

3rd & 4th day

Finishing the frame

After a night of drying, the frame is ready to be used! All that’s left is to do the finishing. You can sand the composite joints to achieve a smooth finish. These joints can then be “glazed” with resin or painted. Finally, you can add stickers, the bamboo can also be painted… Your imagination is your only limit!

5th day

Bike assembly

Once the frame is finished, we assemble the parts of your choice on the bike (transmission, braking, peripherals, accessories)! You leave with a bike that you have completely made and that holds no secrets for you. It’s a fantastic asset to be able to maintain or repair it while you’re on the move!
