Make your own bike in 6 simple steps

Before the workshop

1 - Postural Study and Choice of Geometry

The first step is the postural assessment, which is very important for making the right choice of geometry in order to create a bike perfectly suited to your physique and your practice.

You are measured, and from this data, your future bike is designed for you.

Day 1

3 - Bamboo Cutting

Next, we select the appropriate bamboos to build this bike. We will then shape them so that they fit the various metal components. For this, we use a saw and a planer.

One can choose to make an internal cable passage at this time.

2 - Jig Positioning

Based on the drawing, the various metal components (headset, bottom bracket, seat tube, rear dropouts) are positioned on the jig to reproduce the desired geometry.

Day 2

4 - Manufacture of flax fibre and epoxy resin joints

To make the composite for the joints, we use flax fibre. It comes in the form of a fabric from which we will cut strips. These strips will then be coated with resin and will be used to tie the bamboo to the metal elements. It is a simple step that takes about 4 hours.

Days 3 & 4

5 - Finish

After a night of drying, the frame is ready to be used! All that’s left is to do the finishing touches. You can sand the composite joints to achieve a smooth finish. These joints can then be “glazed” with resin or painted. Finally, you can add stickers, and the bamboo can also be painted… Your imagination is your only limit!

Day 5

6 - Bicycle Assembly

Once the frame is finished, we will assemble the components of your choice onto the bike (transmission, braking, peripherals, accessories)! You will leave with a bike that you have completely built and that holds no secrets for you. It’s a fantastic advantage to be able to maintain or repair it while you are on the move!
